Kody Brown, who lost his son Garrison Brown whom he shared with his ex-wife Janelle Brown, recently reflected on their relationship, stating that it “certainly could have been better.”
Garrison Brown, the fourth of six children shared by Kody Brown and Janelle Brown, was discovered deceased by his younger brother Gabriel Brown. Ahead of Sister Wives Season 19 premiere, Brown reflected on the heartbreak of losing a child, expressing regret over missed opportunities to strengthen their bond. Speaking to People, he shared,
We could have been talking more. I’d get texts, stuff like that, and we could have, retrospectively, we could have done so much more — And it was almost like — I’m busy with my life, he’s busy with his life, and when we connect, we’ll connect.
“It was kind of like, we’ve got forever. It was more like it was a convenience of time that I felt like I had,” he further said, expressing a deep sense of regret for not making more of an effort to stay in touch regularly.
He described the loss of his young son as “irrevocably,” saying that he can’t “get back to where I was. I can’t reconcile that he’s not here.” He added that his greatest regret was not cherishing the time they had together.
“The only regret is just, gosh, I would just do that more often,” he said before adding, “The only regret is that you didn’t do something. You didn’t take more time.” Janelle Brown, Garrison Brown’s mother, has also expressed profound grief over their son’s untimely passing.

Janelle Brown, who shared six children with Kody Brown, has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her 25-year-old son, Garrison Brown, expressing that they “had no idea he was in that place.”
Garrison Brown was found deceased by his brother and his death was later ruled a suicide. Janelle revealed that “substance abuse” likely played a role in his passing, according to People.
She also shared that they had talked to him and tried helping him to get over such struggles, but “he couldn’t get on top of the battle,” leaving her in a “grief trap” with the question if they could have done something more.
We were always talking to him, we were loving him… He couldn’t seem to get over. And it just wasn’t for lack of love or lack of anything — Could we have done something more, but I don’t know.
Janelle recently shared “bittersweet” memories of Garrison on Instagram, posting a photo of herself with Garrison Brown, Gabriel Brown, and Savanah Brown. “My phone serves me up memories every day,” she captioned the post on Instagram.
Often they are pictures with Garrison. On good days (and today is a good day!) they make smile because I remember the event and that it was a fun day. There is always a bittersweet after glow but it’s still a good thing to see these time capsules.
Janelle, who spiritually married Kody Brown in 1993, shares six children with him, including Logan Brown, Madison Brown, Hunter Brown, Garrison Brown, Gabriel Brown, and Savanah Brown. The couple eventually grew apart and have since separated.
