Sister Wives: Christine Brown’s Daughter Ysabel Breaks Down Over Loss of Relationship With Kody
During Sister Wives’ Nov. 17 episode, Christine Brown’s daughter Ysabel Brown burst into tears over the idea that her new boyfriend David Woolley might replace her dad Kody Brown.
Christine Brown’s fast-paced romance with David Woolley is leaving some of her kids with conflicted emotions.
During the Nov. 17 episode of Sister Wives, Christine and her ex Kody Brown’s 20-year-old daughter Ysabel Brown broke down in tears while her mom and her then-boyfriend David are moving into their new home together in Utah.
“He won’t try to replace Dad, right?” Ysabel asked Christine of David taking on a father figure role with her and siblings Aspyn Thompson, 29, Mykelti Padron, 28, Paedon Brown, 26, Gwendlyn Brown, 23, and Truely Brown, 14. “For us.”
“No, because no one’s going to replace your dad. No one,” Christine, who split from Kody in 2021 after 25 years of spiritual marriage, assured her daughter. “If you need a dad figure or a father figure or someone like that, he’ll be whatever you need.”
But the situation only served to highlight just how fractured the family dynamics between Kody and many of his children are.
“I worry,” a tearful Ysabel shared in her confessional, “that my dad and the chance of having a really close relationship with my dad is slowly going away.”
Christine understands Ysabel’s internal struggling, explaining in her own confessional, “She wants a dad big time. But she wants her dad.”
Christine also tries to reassure Ysabel that David will be “a great stepdad,” which her daughter agrees with.
“David, he comes off as a very present dad with his children, so I mean, how lovely would that be, right?” Ysabel pondered while breaking down crying in her confessional. “So I would love to have a relationship that is as amazing with my own father.”
TLCYsabel further tried to explain her fears surrounding her mom’s whirlwind romance with David.
“I’m worried that my relationship with my father will be desolate, will not exist anymore,” Ysabel shared. “Because David will… I don’t mean to say he would be that kind of person. Because he would only ever come into any situation with everybody else in mind and only with respect of everybody else as well.”
Christine reassured her daughter that her husband-to-be had no interest in stepping on any toes, explaining, “David coming in, all that does is someone else to love. But as far as replacing your dad, no.”
TLCThe episode, which was filmed in early 2023, took place before David and Christine’s October 2023 wedding.
But when speaking with E! News this past October, Christine suggested the situation hasn’t totally improved.
“It’s devastating to have your kids have daddy issues because my relationship with my dad is one of my favorite relationships,” Christine exclusively told E! News. “And to have kids who struggle with their dad, it’s really, really hard. I would love it if they had a good relationship with him.”
